Matching abrasive formulations to machines and parts

Abrasive formulation starts with the part material, its geometry, the machine and the required surface. These requirements guide process development for lapping, wet polishing, precision finishing and superfinishing.

EUROPOLISH

Europolish special products

Alongside its formulation work, EMAFS offers selected high-end products from MERARD and Europolish. The Europolish examples below cover superfinishing, chemical mechanical polishing and abrasive flow machining.

WFLUID

Chemical-mechanical polishing slurries

Europolish’s WFLUID range comprises compounds and slurries for superfinishing and chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP). Grades include 504HC, 604HC and 304SL; selection depends on the material, equipment and target surface finish.

01

Precision finishing & superfinishing

Process development starts with the desired surface roughness, functional surface requirements and geometrical constraints. These requirements guide the discussion of specialist products.

02

Lapping

Products and process development for lapping applications. Selection depends on the material, required surface form and finish, and the application’s geometrical constraints.

03

Wet polishing

Special products for polishing with a liquid medium. Selection takes account of the material, incoming surface condition and required result.

04

Polishing & high-gloss finishes

Products and process development for gloss and mirror-finish objectives. Visual appearance is assessed alongside the required surface quality.

Three ways to work with EMAFS

We start with the part, the target finish and the equipment. Those details determine whether the work centres on a process, a consumable or a machine under development.

  1. 01

Develop the finishing process to make full use of the customer’s existing machines.

  2. 02

Design consumables for a specific process and machine to improve how they work together.

  3. 03

Work with technology and finishing-machine manufacturers, contributing expertise in formulated abrasives.
